'Studies for songbirds' is a series of small works: visual poems/songs of which the imagery of Morse Code patterns, empty cages, feathers and smoke make up the core vocabulary. |

| betwixt and between (boxed sets) |
| Upward and/or outward beyond the futhest reaches of betwixt and between. |
A series of shadow box constructions, tool reconfigurations, experiments with layering the imagery and physicality of common objects: ladders, pencils, spoons, thread/needle. Rethinking ideas of "usefulness" and/or "uselessness", reorienting paths, and reconfiguring structure. |

| desk 132 (beacon) |
An obscure, dysjunct path of elevation/graduation
towards an unknown brilliance. Up we go, down we go, constructing new understanding, shifting vantage points, re-arranging pathways, and connecting the dots. This system may not quite be as linear as it seems: unknown ends by peculiar & unique means: loop around, and here we are again. That
light shines on above, spins around, meanwhile the path must be further investigated. |
"Desk 132 (beacon)" was created for MCLA's "Desk Project" held at Gallery 51 in North Adams, MA. The piece is an alteration of an antique school desk. With its adustable legs fully extended, the piece stands 8' tall and within the propped-open lid is a rotating beacon-esque lamp. A variety of small ladders affix to the legs with magnets (so they can be rearranged, added to, taken away). This work was auctioned off to raise tuition funds for an MCLA student. |

| shiver |
| When I was a kid, I had a bird named Sammy. Sammy was a cockatiel. Throughout his long days in his cage, he often picked at his feathers. Every once and a while, he would violently shiver, and his loose feathers would fall out through the rungs of the cage, and onto the ground. |
'shiver' features a tattered pillow constructed from re-used bits of bedding fabric stuffed with bright red feathers (from a found feather boa) inside of a steel cage. A motion sensor triggers the motor with off-center weight, which dangles off the bottom. When activated, the motor causes the pillow to "shiver", occasionally shaking loose some of the contents. |

'Voice paper' is a series of works which physically manipulate paper, a medium which has historically been used to record thoughts, actions, ideas words, in order to give it a voice of it's own in the visceral 'now'. The re-appropriation of this medium, through ripping, brushing, flicking, and crinkling, paper is able to "speak" the non-verbal language of present experience. |

| 'Voice paper (book 1)' consists of three wooden frames, each of which suspends a sheet of paper. A rotary brush, powered by an electric motor, rubs up agains the paper creating a soft "shushing" sound. |

|
| 'Voice paper (book 2)' consists of a steel framework which suspends 16 sheets of paper from it. Plastic paper-flicking devices are mounted on a rotating shaft behind each sheet of paper. When the motor is activated, the shafts turn, and the paper comes alive. The resulting sound is a cacophony of pops, claps and snaps. |
